I thought the Aeralis Dart was being developed for the Hawk replacement. Guess that is dragging on too long.

[This is the UK designed replacement](https://aeralis.com/2025/04/07/right-time-right-place-for-reds/) that Boeing/BAE will compete with. It’s an interesting choice for the UK government, as I’ve no doubt that the T-7 would be cheaper on paper, but the Aeralis allows for exports (and the Hawk jet was a very successful export). Obviously exports would be attractive for the UK, but they ought to also consider the UK’s position in a rapidly expanding global arms race, which could likely underpin exports across a range of defence sectors, which may be better served with a local contract than trainer jet aircraft and have less competition on the world market (The T-7 has already captured a lot of the market. Moreover, competition would be with the US/Boeing, who could also be customers for those alternative sectors). They may also think that giving BAE and Boeing (and Saab!) a well needed cash boost ahead of upcoming sixth-generation fighter production is the best option.

As long as they also replace that horrendous diesel and dye. The stuff stinks and sticks to everything it drifts down onto.

    5. M346 or T/F50 seem the obvious options, they’re modern trainers and they give you the option of light attack if you need it
