I get how they’re not for everyone now but I loved mine in my local Church. My wife even walked form the house to it in her dress. Ceremonies I’ve attended that are not held in a church just feel like they don’t have the same reverence to the ceremony.
Good. The sooner we separate the concepts of _marriage_ and _organised religion_, the better.
This headline is contradictory. It’s not marriage that is being shunned, but weddings in churches.
It still hasn’t sunk in that the UK isn’t a Christian country anymore it’s actually majority Atheist…

Someone posted in legal advice UK yesterday about their situation, man saved diligently his entire live, woman spent frivolously and gambled her pension pot away and in £40k in debt.
Went to get a divorce consultation and was told she’d be entitled to up to 70% of his assets Inc pension.
Doesn’t exactly inspire people to get married.
Who would have guessed in a cost of living crisis less people are spunking 1000s on a party.
Doubt it’s anything to do with the venue of the wedding.
It’s most likely due to the scam that’s weddings these days.
I looked into it years ago and the minimum I could get it down to in most places was nearly £10k for a shitty venue room and a crappy dj.
A lot of people dont have the money for such an expense or would rather use that money for a deposit
Young people can barely even afford to move out. It’s less that they’re “shunning marriage” and more that everything marketed for weddings costs 5 times more than normal despite not actually being any more expensive to produce or procure, and the media pushes the narrative that spending tens of thousands on a single day (or in some cases a single dress to wear on one single day) is not only normal but that not doing so means you have some kind of moral failing.
I know people who got in hundreds of thousands of pounds in debt for their wedding, only to have the marriage break down within a couple of years.
Spending silly money on legal proceedings that are a pain to organise and, statistically, have a reasonable chance in ending an unfair financial mess.
All while struggling to pay rent.
Are there any advantages to getting married nowadays? It’s really expensive and stressful to organize. I barely make any money already, why would I spend thousands on such an event?
I’m French and over there almost everyone is just getting civil partnerships.
Good, no reason to get married..you love each other that’s enough if one side is forcing marriage it’s normally a bad sign.

I know at least 2 darft bridezillers who blew thousands of pounds on massive, pretentious wedding do’s.
Ridiculous, because neither of their marriages lasted for longer than 2yrs!
Personally, I got married with a few family members & my dog. It was a joyous, lovely memorable dayl All for the cost of the licence & booze & nice, proper, edible, normal food.
Well yeah less people are religious, I was raised Catholic but I won’t be having a church wedding.

How is this even news? Marriage rates have been declining for half a century. Religion has also been declining for longer than that. Neither of these things can be news to anyone, surely?
