The Dutch government suspended its powers over chipmaker Nexperia, restoring control to its Chinese owner and defusing a standoff with Beijing that had begun to hamper automotive production around the world.
The order that gave the Netherlands powers to block or revise decisions at Nexperia was dropped as “a show of goodwill,” Economic Affairs Minister Vincent Karremans said Wednesday in a post on social media site X.

Wasn’t China stealing all the IP?

This was a stupid move by the Dutch. Why not stop buyouts while they happen? Or build your own shit afterwards.

So this shows how much leverage China has over Europe/USA. They have been playing USA as well, you want trade war? Fine, we’ll stop the flow of rare earths.
This was a situation of if we don’t do anything the company gets moved to China making us more dependent on them. And now we did something probably the same will happen anyway. So yeah, what should you do? Let it happen?

Back off like this will do nothing but emboldened the Chinese.
Expect them to start fucking with us even more.

Clarification though: its only part control. The governments intervention as far as I know “only” meant that the government could block and revert certain decisions. The shares are still in custody due to a ruling by the judge, which is a related but seperate issue over which the government has no control

This was the most reasonable outcome.

They did it under US directive. US then made some bargains with Chinese and then the NL returned it.
China rightfully views Europe as a vassal of US. It is as if the entire continent is run by little Chamberleins.

This was the perfect Trump play, that many here forgot
Cause a problem (tell Den Haag to steal), attempt to use the problems as leverage in trade negotiations, and “solve” the problem you caused.
“My” government played their role as dogs perfectly. They and the Dutch/Europeans are the only ones who suffered serious consequence, all for the benefit of our dictator.
The empire is in decline. It needs to ravage more of its vassals and subjects to maintain their obscenities. Parts of the United States have been deteriorating rapidly for decades. The idea that we as vassals would be spared is insane.

Whoever thought the seizure was a good idea should he exiled from politics. The person is clearly incompetent.
As I have been warning people, Beijing is a serious adversary. You cannot see them as weak, incompetent, or stupid. You cannot think you hold all the cards. You cannot even believe that a tech embargo will be your trump card. This rivalry will be very dynamic. And I don’t think the EU can move fast enough to face this threat.

Beyond embarrassing.
The Dutch can join the Canadians in learning a hard lesson in getting stabbed in the back after taking orders from america to screw over a Chinese tech company.
At least the Dutch learned their lesson in a few weeks instead of dragging it out for years like Canada.

The dutch shills who were explaining that there were 99 reason for taking over the company and being a lapdog of trump isnt one of them are silent now. It was obvious from the start the dutch government overreacted without thinking about step B, C and D.

I have never disagreed more with a comment section on this sub as with this one. I feel everyone rather had this company move it’s IP to China and that Europe would lose this capability on this scale.
This company shouldn’t have been sold to Chinese investors in the first place, but that is hindsight, and 2018 was quite a different time.
So in order to prevent the theft, this law was used. Now that the theft has been stopped, Nexperia will have to let these capabilities stay in Europe. So now it can be transferred back, without major damage to supply chains.
It was risky, it could have been prevented in 2018, but I refuse to believe this was just a ploy to abide Trump. The world has become a lot more hostile and we even have war on the continent. We can’t let these capabilities move somewhere else.
