Dumb question but how long do yous think this will last?

The question is, is this something to be concerned about?
It’s below 8%…

World economy is slowing. America is in recession in all but name. The AI capex spending is the only thing starving off a recession atm. The world economy has not look so shaky since 07.
Irish governance for the past ten years has been throw money at the problem until it goes away. I really hope we don’t regret all the wastefullness.
How long can the ai bubble last is the real question- that’s when the party is over. When a company like openai can commit to 1.3 trillion in capex spending with revenues of 13 billion- i don’t think it lasts past 2026

Unemployment in the 80’s was between 13% and 18%
I genuinely remember having to make do with not much and no luxuries and the photos from our family definitely show we were poor.
So I’m not sweating 5.8% just yet

the amount of state money being given to house people in private properties is gonna be a shit show, middle class can’t take any more taxation with the ridiculous cost of living.
Country is gonna be an absolute shit show…

A growing unemployment rate and an ever expanding number of people on social welfare means this is a ticking time bomb.

Youth unemployment numbers annoy me as it should really should have percentage of youth in school or college.

Bound to happen. Getting a job in the last year has been a ridiculous process and it shouldn’t be hard to find a job when the country was in “full-employment” or so they say.

As of July the average rate of unemployment in the EU was 5.9%, so at 5.3% we’re still below that.
The question is more of trends. Why has unemployment increased and is it projected to continue? But in itself that figure isn’t particularly concerning.

When both unemployment and population rising at the same time, it’s about time we question government policy.
Why is an economy with fewer jobs more attractive to people seeking to come here.
Are we simultaneously making inward migration more attractive due to welfare incentives, while making enterprise/employment creation more difficult due to over regulation and tax.

I’ve been trying to get a job for a year now. Experienced, multiple degrees. It’s absolutely brutal – a gazillion rounds, demanding projects that seem like free consulting, zero feedback.
I keep getting to the final stage of roles that then go to nobody and are repeatedly relisted…what’s that about? It’s a nightmare and a real psychological battle.
To anyone in the same situation, my heart goes out to you.

It’s really rough. I worked in an industry with tons of job postings that’s always looking for staff and left because the stress, work conditions and bad pay were eating me alive.
I’ve retrained and it’s really challenging to break into it. I know it’ll work out eventually but job sites are extremely depressing.
