Hopefully they don’t lose their country.

      Again.

He could probably have conveyed his message differently

I doubt many people born in France would want to die for France, especially when we know it would probably serve some politician’s agenda and not a greater good.

France is a scared chicken, soon will be without its head and paralysed by pure chaos and populism.

Yes, there is direct danger from the nazis ruzzia but everyone is still turning a blind eye to that and not doing anything.

Ukraine is taking a massive hit and in fact is a shield which is protecting Europe from swaths of rabid barbarians. But Europe is not grateful enough, we probably will never see French troops in Ukraine. We would sooner see rabid barbarians in France.

The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make the other bastard die for his.

No way people will grasp the subtlety. When people signal they are ready to stand on the line together and credibly signal “one more step and you will be fighting all of Europe”, Russia will weigh up our economic and demographic strength and back down.

When people telegraph very clearly they are not prepared to take any risk, as NATO did with Ukraine, Russia will judge that if push comes to shove we will back down and we can be victimized as smaller nations one by one.

Its an extension of “if you want peace, prepare for war”. I kind of thought we learnt this lesson with Mr Hitler and Mr Wilhelm who both misjudged Britain’s willingness to stand with France. But it seems to have been forgotten.

I also find it kind of revolting the implication from people’s reactions that soldiers are fine to die (“its their job”), but the idea that the rest of us should ever suffer is unthinkable. Many soldiers are 18, 19, 20 year old kids with their lives ahead of them – we should be fine that they die while 30, 40, 50 year old blokes sit happily at home and go on with life as normal. Yuck.

France is generally not known to be the most effective at full scale war. But they tend to loose their men nevertheless.

Majority of French youth come from foreign backgrounds and most have no loyalty or patriotic feelings to France, so good luck getting them to sign up to go fight Russia

When he talks about the children of France, they talk about its soldiers. People take it all at face value, like it’s generalized conscription…

    10. Agree, but French billionaires should also accept loosing 2% of their monstruous fortunes to help

(Its about Zuckman law proposal, that was rebuked because “oh the rich are going to leave, we can’t ask them that, but instead lets remove two holidays)

At least someone understands that shit can go kinetic at somepoint (or not) and that Bunker Grandpa is not a rational actor. Better late then never, right ?

    12. Yes, if there is war, someone’s children will be killed. That is why we shouldn’t go to war *heedlessly*.

That does not mean not going to war *ever.*

Yes, more blood sacrifices for the dark lords known as BAE systems, Elbit systems and Raytheon.

They already are losing their children because their government won’t fight for them. No war with Russia needed.

No shelf respecting gen z male is dying for a country that has abandoned them. I am joining russia before that.

Thankfully France has plenty of young military aged males who have recently settled there and can now prove their love for their new mother country.

I’m French, feel like a patriot (*something I strongly separate from the far-right traitors staining that term*), but this grand statement made me angry.

How do they believe we, the people, will have a high morale in case of war, consider how our elites are behaving like weasels and mercenaries licking the billionaires asses? Do they somehow believe a society of inequalities and “might makes right” can foster strength and citizenship, a sense of duty? They can go impale themselves on Dubaï chocolate for all I care.

I could fight for my country, no problem with that, and I mean it seriously. But then it means I expect respect in return. For me, for the retirees who workers their ass off for decades, for the public education of our children, for the farmers, for my buddies being unfairly racialized, molested for free by the police, or discriminated against. Respect first, then *after* we can talk about pulling the next Crimea War campaign.
