“not ready to accept losing its children”.. i wonder if his children and family will be fighting in front rows..
It’s never their children, it’s always our lives and our children that will be lost, for them to sit on negotiation tables and make money out of wars.

Be careful that, in French culture, it is pretty clear that he is speaking about the soldiers. I have seen many people, especially from the pro-russian parties, willfully misinterpreted his speech to draw strawmen.
And yeah, with the US trying to force Ukraine into capitulating and the threat of Russia waiting for the moment to invade the EU-territory, we are screwed if we keep the München mindset.

Thank you for sharing the full speech. This is the kind of careful observations and hard truths I would like to hear from a chief of staff of the European Defense Forces some day. Not chest thumping, but stating the challenges we are facing and what to expect to overcome them. Leadership par excellence.

Many people are misconstruing his words for the sake of outrage.

Thank you for linking the whole speech. Tired of the soundbites and rage baiting titles made from his speech by russian trolls and far-right

We’ve been suffering economically for three years, but they’re asking for even more, and they admit that their handling of the situation only increases the likelihood of conflict.

If Europe compels its youth to take up arms with the intention of rotting in a trench in the Donbass, it won’t be the Russians who’ll have to worry.

Wow, what a ridiculously bad translation.
But yeah, what I can make out of it is that France is dying! for international conflict. Finally his “profession” can be active again.
Imagine a musician only sitting at home playing for himself. That’s how they felt for decades. So glad that there are so many hints, that the world needs them again. Good luck everybody.
ah, and I am not a Russian bot, I am the musician.

Sure we should always fight for ourselves. But a country that sends it’s children to war while the old men stay behind and get rich is not one I want to fight for. I’ll gladly stand on the frontlines. If all the politicians and royals etc share my trench.

I’m tired of the information warfare from the pro-russian side. What kind of idiot does not understand that “the children of a country” are its God damn citizens and not literal children.
Some people would really benefit from learning a second language in order to understand that some sentences make less sense when directly translated or in a different cultural context.

It’s amazing that a simple speech like this is even remotely controversial. It’s pretty much just a correct assessment and handing out a few truths around.
The world has changed (or rather gone back to the norm) and refusing to acknowledge this basic fact, that violence might be needed, that we might have to suffer, dooms us all. There’s no point to an army, a defence, if there’s no willingness to use it and pay the price for it if needed.
We might as well surrender straight up if we re not ready for that, learn the taste of the boot and save everyone some time.
