      > Owner of SuperValu, Centra, Mace and Donnybrook Fair franchises says cost of living and value are ‘critically important’ for customers

The irony. Cost of living crisis while supermarkets are making obscene daily profits.

Its only when you havent been in one in a while you realise how pricey it is with very few offers. The contrast between their very good stores and the bad ones is also vast.

All of them taking advantage of cost of living crisis….

€2.6m across 1,345 stores is approx. €1,933 profit each week across each store, a margin of around 5%. That’s not the headline people here think it is.

There’ll be a load of people arguing about percentage, how it’s small compared to revenue.

Right, but in a cost of living crisis it’s hardly coincidental this is when the record figure are reached and it means there’s overhead to drop prices for the consumer.

Never forget SuperValu were biggest abuser of jobbridge scheme a few years ago. Refusing to pay staff while making big profit. Scumbags.

Absolute ripoff of a place. Only ever grab milk or bread when I’m coming back from the gym, otherwise Lidl/Aldi/Tesco

Seems this is just in line with previous years trends. From Gemini:

Musgrave Group reported profit before tax (PBT) of €134.5 million in 2024 and €128.1 million in 2023. In 2022, PBT was approximately €116 million and profit after tax (PAT) was €99 million. Available data indicates PBT before exceptional items was €60 million in 2014, with a PAT loss of €13 million. For more detailed financial reports, visit Musgrave Group

Most of These are franchises, so would receive payment either way. Musgrave owned are all the old Superquinn stores and Donnybrook fair and about 15% Centra/Daybreak
