Doctors are angry because their take home pay after taxes is lower than what it was in the early 2000s. The uncomfortable truth is after their big pay settlement last year their pre-tax pay is largely inline with 2008. The problem is all high earners are paying a record high tax burden. Every pay rise, 52% (Income, NI, Student Loans) is eaten by Tax, MINIMUM – that excludes the loss of marriage allowance, child benefit, free childcare hours and personal allowance at various cliff edges – creating marginal rates of 60% to over 100%.
I respect the BMA for fighting for their members but ultimately hard work doesn’t pay in this country. That is what the people have voted for. It is what Labour considers to be its core value. Anyone over £48k isn’t considered a working person. That includes most Doctors.
Instead of protesting for higher pay to try to overcome the ridiculous tax situation we have in the UK – they should demand real reform to the way work is taxed in the UK.

I doubt that stat captured people like me that had their consultation appointment cancelled “due to unforseen circumstances” again
My issue is minor but needs checking and I’ve been waiting over 2 years (it went then came back again)
I support the doctors but this is the third time it’s been cancelled due to IA
So these stats seem like spin to me “planned care” seems to be the key word, as I doubt I fall under that for an initial diagnosis/consult

Trouble is, like with the minimum wage, pay the lowest more results in every doctor and consultant needing more to equalise the bandings
