The latest US peace plan should be the final driver for Europe to permanently decouple from the US in military terms. Europe and America should still be allies in the future, when the orange man bady is gone, but the US should never again be allowed to dictate European security.

Europe got a choice between humilation and war in the future. It choose humilation, and looking that trump is Putins lapdog – itll have war either way

It is no longer a risk of slipping into servility, it is a myriad of events that ARE full-blown servility, starting from the tariffs, passing into that white house photo with all EU leaders around donnie, and the succession of humiliations regarding Ukraine negotiations.

    4. I know things are tensioned right now due to Trump and his buddies, but I’d like to point out that OP is a bot who posts articles only to create a wedge between the US and Europe. I think it would be nice if people in general would be more skeptical of all the agenda pushing that has been going on in the last few years.

For decades the US–EU relationship was based on shared values, but now it often feels like Europe must tiptoe around a partner who can overturn years of cooperation with a single impulsive decision. That unpredictability forces European leaders into a corner: flatter to maintain favor or risk diplomatic fallout. Neither option preserves dignity or equality. When allies feel compelled to placate rather than negotiate, the relationship stops functioning as a true alliance and becomes a power imbalance disguised as cooperation.

It has never been a balanced alliance. (Some countries in) Europe just has not realized that because both interests were somewhat aligned. Let’s hope that it will be Europe’s Suez

Europe needs a solid plan to move away from the US permanently. We cannot be dependant on them in any way. Less American business and no military.

Europe and the EU in particular need to wake up to the fact that America First politicians see them as rivals at best and vassals at worst, and that the weakening of Europe eg by slowly abandoning Ukraine is not just an unfortunate side-effect of some kind of peace plan but actually one of the goals of this whole MAGA strategy.

Because of that I unfortunately don’t see much value in maintaining a close transatlantic relationship.

The only person who thinks europeans are being sincere is trumpypoo. They want something. If pretending to suck up is a way to get it then fine.

The risk of? Europe has positioned itself as a vassal far before the Trump era.

Trump has simply stopped pretending, unlike Biden

    11. Show me any written and signed contracts with Trump. Practically every country in the world has made him promises but not signed anything. It’s obvious why they’re doing that. They’re all negotiating with each other to freeze out the USA. In order to get the best deal with other trading partners they want the lowest possible tariff from Trump. If you’ve got a 20% tariff then you’re in a stronger position than someone facing 50%,

I notice that none of the pundits seem to realise that no democracy can tell its companies that they have to buy energy from the USA, nor that they have to invest billions there. So they’re keeping the tantrum toddler sweet with promises of ice cream that they will never deliver.

It’s pathetic that we’re still engaging in this fantasy that the US will ever be an ally we can depend on again. Time to grow up, Europe: we’re on our own. Cut the apron strings, stop humiliating ourselves for no gain and start making some tough choices about the continent we want to be.

US spends 11% of GDP on defence. Europe refuses to spend even 2% on defence having a war at their doorstep.
So only Trump managed to push Europe’s spending above 2%.
So who paying for defence has the right to have final say.

War was for 9 years in Europe Russian spys infiltrated all the European countries changing rulers and sabotaging all infrastructure assassinate whoever they want.
Europe is just expressing deep concern and send strong letters of condemnation.
