There are no structural cuts in this budget at all. They’re increasing a few taxes, skipping a few indexations, and then begging the gods for an economic windfall from activating the unemployed. It’s a depressingly unambitious package.

It’s okay, if we have learned anything it’s that every time NVA bases their “savings” on a massive price/VAT/excise tax increase and an assumption demand will remain the same you know the actual savings will be closer to 0.

Besides the entire Demir adult education debacle, who else remembers van Overtveldt basing an entire budget on increased revenue from jacking up the excise taxes on alcohol and cigarettes, only to be a surprised Pikachu that all it did was depress demand?
