And in return they employ hundreds in the UK and help to prop up our arts industry.
But how much tax did it generate directly or indirectly?

So this record taxpayer cash is a quarter of the amount of money spent by Disney in the UK in this project? That seems a significant factor.

So Disney is an American film company that made a £3bn operating profit in 2024, yet the U.K. government sees for to throw £60m… All while bashing disabled benefits claimants and recipients and repeatedly seeking to slash disability benefits. Oh, and failing to pursue and demand that very wealthy and rich people pay their fair share of taxes. Where is the major clampdown on very wealthy and rich people evading paying their taxes? Where is the government pursuing major corporations that make huge profits but avoid taxes in the country?
The real scandal is *Corporate Welfare*…. Huge taxpayer subsidies being handed to already hugely profit making corporations that all to often provide low paid, insecure work… And or make considerable numbers of workers redundant, dumping cost on to the taxpayers through increased benefits claims, and bailouts for devalued staff pension funds. The taxpayer once again picking up the bill….
I’m all for things like this. The UK became a movie production powerhouse because of the incentives offered to make movies here.
This is what we should be doing for all our industries.
What’s that? Like 1% of what the Tory thieves spent on unused PPE.
I’ve seen Deadpool vs Wolverine. We should really have given more.
My only criticism is that a lot of these movies are filmed on green screen and don’t showcase the UK as much. The Harry Potter inspired areas in edinburgh and similar places do great for tourism so it’d be nice to get more of that on show.
This is such a non-story, obviously the benefit to that economy overall (both directly and indirectly) is going to make the £60m worth it. How frustrating to read an article like that!
