Until Europe starts investing hundreds of billions into AI, it has no chance to defend itself.
At least there are startups like Aisle in EU that try to address this. But it is too little, too late.
You can think whatever you want about AI but the reality is that LLMs clearly demonstrated a capability to find software security vulnerabilities and combine them at scale that’s impossible to defend against manually.

You mean like that time when someone tapped the phone of a certain EU leader?
Rings a bell, doesn’t it?

If you tell me there are Chinese spies in the US, I’d agree. But if you say there are Chinese spies in Europe, what exactly does Europe have that’s worth sending spies for… for continuing the prism project of the US?

I doubt the Chinese UK mega embassy on the site of the old Royal mint would aid this 🙄

With espionage now “a natural element of international politics,”
Hasn’t this been happening since time immemorial?
Every bilateral/multilateral exchange involving human resources would carry “risks” as much as benefits for the parties involved.
If China is doing this then Europe could also be doing the same 🤷♂️. I get the message that Europe should keep a close eye on the PRC though.
The only proven and documented large-scale espionage attack in recent history came from the far West, not east.
Tapped EU leader’s phones, espionage on normal citizens, tapping of glass fiber cables with the companies knowledge, and much more.
From the east all I read is articles, saying “X has said that Y suggested, it could be, that […]”
And when there was a probe, like the UK did with Huaweis 5G infrastructure, they found nothing. Still banned them.
I’m convinced that this Red Scare 2.0 is nothing more than a “bomber gap” 2.0. If you’re old enough you can remember the articles in the 80s and 90s about Japan being a “national security threat” too, yet all they did was to challenge the West economically.
That is what’s happening now as well, this time with China. Can’t beat em? Demonize them. Sanction them, tariff them.
.. and regarding espionage in general: I’m sure we’re doing the same to them as we speak. But ofc we’re the good guys, we’re allowed to.

I remember when Trump banned Huawei, many were accusing him of racism and paranoia, especially the naive Europeans who still have Huawei in their most sensible networks today.
Trump might be wrong most of the time but his fear and mistrust of China are justified.

The US figured this out: China hacked the US wiretapping system years ago. The FBI, CISA, NSA, etc fought this Chinese intrusion for ages, but ultimately gave up and [ask Americans us use end-to-end encrypted messaging apps](https://gizmodo.com/fbi-warns-americans-to-start-using-encrypted-messaging-apps-2000533800).
Europe has never even tried to keep Russian and Chinese hackers out. Spain even [hired Huawei to run its wiretapping system](https://www.politico.eu/article/spain-huawei-contract-judicial-wiretaps/). That’s right, Spain pays China to wire tap them. lol
We need to dump this Chat Control stupidity and require end-to-end encrpytion almost everywhere.
Just fyi WhatsApp’s backup breaks your end-to-end encrpytion unless you find this really hidden feature:
[Settings -> Privacy -> Privacy checkup -> Add more privacy to your chats -> End-to-end encrypted backup -> Turn on](https://www.reddit.com/r/crypto/comments/1p5n2gh/what_is_the_status_of_whatsapp_backups/) LOL
