I wish there was a way that anybody protesting this would be banned from using “proximity to the airport rail link” as a reason to massively inflated their house value in 2040.

Nigel and Maebh O’Barrister have the time, knowledge and connections to block these things. I imagine someone, somewhere wants a payoff.

They cite congestion but the metro would surely take cars off the road?

They already stopped the original plans of continuing it along the whole green line.

Oh fuck off. I thought the railway order went through already?

This is Michael McDowell. Yes, Senator/Barrister Michael McDowell, lives close to the proposed Charlemont Metrolink stop.

He’s been ranting about the Metrolink for the guts of a decade now, complaining that it’s a vanity project, a waste of money.

When you look at the actual objections to it, he complains that the construction work will be disruptive, and there will be an increase in foot traffic of people coming to and from the stations, because there’s not enough parking.

In other words, “I don’t want to be inconvenienced in any way, and I definitely do not want unwashed plebian *public transport users* walking past my house. Ugh”.

It’s him and his elitist ilk that are driving up the costs and delays that he so fervently complains about.

He’s a horrible cunt, always has been.

Wild that a multi billion euro project with widespread government/public support can be stopped or delayed to the whims of 20 people.

Is FG/FF heavily lobbied by the legal profession in Ireland ? There can be no other explanation as to why they haven’t tightened the legislation and threshold for JR.

Not hating on the lawyers btw or legal class but my God the gravy train around infrastructure, planning. Immigration is astonishing.

I can see why no one wants to practice criminal law anymore.

Like if this group is unsuccessful, does they pick up the government’s legal costs ?

  9. How close is the proposed stop to Dartmouth Square? If I recall correctly Dartmouth Square is a quiet, tucked away square that’s sort of separated from the canal and Charlemont.

I 100% believe that people who do this expect a brown envelope to remove their objections. For what other reason would you turn down an excellent piece of infrastructure being built in your neighbourhood?

Let’s build one from the edge of Blanchardstown and Finglas going to town and the airport instead. Screw the toffs
