But also, why didn’t she question that Jason Momoa was asking for money

I really have to question how someone with seemingly no critical thinking skills has £18k to just send like that?

Unlucky. I, however, am now in a committed relationship with Jason after he contacted me via the Manchester Evening News Online comment section.

The more I read stories like this, watch documentaries or news articles the more I still do not understand how they let it happen to themselves. Seemingly sentient people with most of their faculties and yet still handing over vast sums of money to people they’ve met on a screen or spoken to over the phone. Boggles my mind

How?
I would say it was a dash of loneliness, a pinch of gullibility and a dollop of stupidity.

There’s a whole host of these scams investigated on the youtube channel Catfished. I honestly don’t get how anybody can fall for these, but then again I’m going to become a boomer in a few decades and I already hate technology so I’ll be right there.

No sympathy for someone who believes actuall Jason Momoa would be asking to borrow money from a randomer.

I wonder what sort of age she is.
If in her 50/60’s i wouldnt be surprised by this. My mother would easily fall for such a scam, and would have done in her late 50’s had she actually had money to send.

Don’t know man. She says fake but this is EXACTLY the kind of thing I image Jason Momoa would do.

I remember seeing a story somewhere of a Japanese woman being scammed into giving, what she thought was an astronaut, money because he needed to buy more oxygen, WTF!
‘Jane’ still has a little further to go on her journey to facing the full reality of her situation.

The one that makes me laugh is the one where someone got a message on instagram from the Queen saying she wasn’t dead, but that Charles had left her on a deserted island and she needed cash to get back home.
It turns up on here from time to time lol.

Thick as pig shit. To think these people walk amongst us is terrifying.

I understand being catfished by someone who is quite attractive but to believe you have attracted Aquaman is a new level of self confidence.

I find it incredibly hard to feel any sympathy for people this stupid.

How to people still fall for this? Do they really think famous people have time to sit down on fb, to scam pensioners?

Surely a multimillionaire asking for money to buy his daughter a present should raise red flags

reading a lot of criticisms on the victim here and to similar frauds…
how could someone fall for this?
truth is, in a set of certain circumstances, almost anyone could be a victim of this. life will play you hard sometimes.
be kind to victims, you could be one too one day.

Friend of my grandma’s in her 80’s still believes Elon musk is sending her £5mil to share amongst the community. No matter how much you tell her, how much you reason with her, she still believes it.
Loneliness, and tech illiteracy really is damaging and quite sad. I know people are entitled to do as they wish but social media and internet access to certain people of age is incredibly irresponsible. Like giving a toddler a hot iron and being surprised they got burnt.

How do people keep falling for this shit? How self obsessed so you have to be to think an actual celebrity who is famous for being good looking is going to randomly start chatting you up? I’m sorry but I have no sympathy if you genuinely think a celebrity is gonna have a romantic relationship with you and borrow money you seriously need help.

Wait the scammers or fake? How can you lose money to a fake scammer

Was listening to Radio 4 a few weeks back about a scam where a person received a call claiming to be from the police insisting that they had detected suspicious activity related to her accounts. They asked her for her address and to put all her cards in the letterbox so they could collect them and prevent fraud.
10 months and £500, 000 later she detected that something might be suspicious. Oh yes, and as part of this anti-fraud process, the ‘police’ enlisted her to make several purchases of gold, Rolex watches, and various other items.
