Otto I, also known as Otto the Great, was Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. He was crowned emperor in 962 and died in 973. His tomb is located in the high choir of the Magdeburg Cathedral. In 2024, significant damage was discovered at his tomb. According to experts, the [limestone sarcophagus](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/Magdeburg_Dom_Inneres_30.jpg) is unstable and needs to be renovated. The wooden inner coffin containing Otto’s remains has largely decayed.

Is there still a skeleton to put in it? Or just dust remnants?

At least put some gold acanthus leaves on it, this looks so sharp my ghost would cut itself on its edge.

I especially like the cross emblazoned on the side, because otherwise there’s no way to tell whether this contains a corpse or a luxury brand fountain pen for crazy people who pay $27000 for their fountain pens.

Decayed after just 1000 years. What a botched job. Hopefully it’s still under warranty. /s
