I agree. No investigation is necessary because it is so blatant.
The same way I’ve ruled out any investigation into the chocolate that mysteriously went missing from the kitchen cupboard when I was working from home.

It would be like a Turkey voting for Xmas. I know it’s a “gotcha” but nobody is that thick to order an investigation into something we already know – what would be the “win”.
If he comes back and says “we checked, there’s no collusion or dodgy money here” – nobody will believe him.
If he comes back and says “there was one or two bad eggs, it was before my time, but we have rooted them out” – nobody will believe him.
If he comes back and says “yeah we’re all Russian assets and they bought my house in Clacton, thanks for doing their bidding with Brexit, now about ECHR and NATO membership” it would surely be the end.
