I’m kinda not expecting this to stick in the way that the Trump “grab em by the pussy” thing didn’t. Like he’s clearly this person so who’s surprised/changing their mind on it? But I suppose it can’t hurt to put the screws in a bit more.

Enoch Powell was right, and he probably understated it.

Man with written reports from his teacher confirming racist views at school (repeatedly making targetted anti semitic comments towards a Jewish classmate is racist, it’s not banter, and the victim might reasonably hold a good memory of it even if it was 50 years ago) goes on to make political career of saying things that appeal to racists and now is realistically close to achieving ambition to become Prime Minister, and refuses to deny being racist when called out for it. I miss the days when you could ostracise racist dickheads for being racist dickheads, or at least expect aspiring world statesmen to be held accountable.

      >[…] large numbers of people with legal status in the UK would need to have their right to stay revoked and should “go home”.

      >“There are also a large number of people in this country who came here legally, but in effect shouldn’t have been able to do so. It’s not the fault of the individuals who came here, they just shouldn’t have been able to do so.

      >“They will also need to go home. What that will leave is a mostly but not entirely culturally coherent group of people.”

Is it Tommy Robinson? Is it Enoch Powell? Well, surely it’s Nigel Farage!

It’s actually Katie Lam, a ‘rising star’ in the Conservative Party. Britain’s right has shifted and shifted to ever more right-wing and racist rhetoric, and it’s only a matter of time before that translates into actual policies. Our current political environment isn’t one in which you can take down a politician on the basis of divisive and inflammatory things they’ve said. It’s too mainstream now, and you know that because even that charisma and principle vacuum Keir Starmer has been experimenting with it.

He’s toast now. the attack dogs are out. You know there’s a room at several newspapers frantically phoning around to get the receipts. for someone who has been given the easiest of rides by the media (led by the BBC platforming him) as he was a convenient tool to get what they wanted from the main parties, I can’t wait to see this unravel.

I’m more surprised that *ANYONE* is even remotely surprised tbh.
