At least scientifically reasonable part of censorship.

I mean, that specific statement is right.
Also, total anonymity did open the floodgates to orc propaganda accounts.
We need to find better ways to regulate:
1. Exposure of children to social media
2. Troll accounts in SM
3. An no, I don’t see why public figures (MP’s) should be excluded from any type of regulation.
Anyhow, my take might be unpopular, but eh?

I would love to have a troll-free European SM to not have to filter out fking Russian trolls.

Tell that to my niece. She hit her mom when she was refused iPad time.

If this health and safety issue is the case for basically all apps then designate the whole “smart”-phone as dangerous for minors and add them to the list. It makes regulation a bit simpler and not a privacy issue.
They already added AI to the list of machinery, so why not smartphones.:

Adults on social media scare me a lot more than children. The sector lacks meaningful trust and transparency, and because the dominant platforms are American. And the US is politically gridlocked and allergic to regulation. The entire tech ecosystem operates with minimal oversight. That vacuum allows major platforms to influence and exploit democratic processes, and that’s what needs to change first and foremost.

I think that being exposed to the opinions of 13 year olds online is a crime against humanity in itself, so this law serves protection both ways.

Define social media
YouTube has endless doom scrolling in the form of YouTube shorts just the same as tik tok and Instagram
You can dm strangers on WhatsApp, telegram via group chats
You can’t ban under 16s from using YouTube and WhatsApp they are essential tools for school and homelife in 2026 but they are basically social media the same as Instagram and tik tok

Malaysia is already on it.
I doubt they will make it work out aside from banning/collecting phones at school and eventually end up providing all hardware that can be monitored for usage at school. This is the only reasonably doable thing to ensure equal access to tech.

Exactly, there’s zero moderation of content online by tech companies.
If movies have ratings, social media should too. It can be automated and violations easy to spot.
