Andrii durante la prigionia russa si addormentò con in mano un frammento di vetro con pensieri suicidi, ma i sogni dei suoi figli lo facevano andare avanti

Andrii signed up in March 2022. He was captured in December while on a position in the Donetsk direction.
His wife, Olena:
“I went to rallies and meetings. Together with the women from the NGO *Opora Tytaniv (Eng. Support of the Titans)*, which unites families of the missing and prisoners of war from the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade ‘Edelweiss’, we traveled to Istanbul.
I reached out to the Coordination Headquarters, the Ombudsman, the Red Cross Society. I wrote appeals to members of parliament, to the UN, to the European Court.
They told me that my husband was on the exchange list.
There was a situation when the Russian side made an ‘information dump’. They published lists of our men – my husband among them – and wrote that the Ukrainian side was refusing to take them back. But I believed that all my efforts could not be in vain. And thank God, we lived to see this day.
Before the war he got a tattoo on his arm – our children’s names: *Danyil and Anastasiia*.
On the phone he said he didn’t think he would live to see his release. In captivity he even had thoughts of suicide. Andrii fell asleep holding a piece of glass in his hand because he thought he simply couldn’t endure anymore. And then he would dream of our son. He told me that our son appeared in his dreams often. And because of that he found the strength to hold on and keep fighting. That was the most important thing.”
Thanks for your service and enduring resistance. Lots of praise from here in the UK. You guys are the defenders of democracy and Europe. I really wish our governments would do more.
