Croatia is turning green, not the green green but the poo shade of green.

I’m surprised that Finland doesn’t have conscription for women.

    3. Keep in mind this does not necessarily include mandatory conscription or service. So in Sweden if you get called to conscript you have to attend, but most men and women do not get conscripted.

I would like to see the age group for compulsory army in every country.

Fun fact: Austria‘s men mostly voted against it in 2013 but Austria’s woman voted in favor.

It would be good for society to bring it back. An investment in future security.

I think the ussr conscripted woman too no?

I think in the dark days of the war they used some for front line infantry even.

There was a woman in that book about the sniper in stalingrad, was that the war of the rats?  I think they mentioned it there anyway.

    8. Switzerland will literally vote this weekend to include women. Its likey to fail due to too little demand and high cost& women could already join if they want

How does it work in Poland? I would have thought they had conscription?

    10. As a person that was never required to do mandatory military service I will never push anyone else to do it against their will. It would be downright hypocritical of me otherwise.

Still I’m all for strong professional militaries. Anyone that wants to serve from their own free will, should have all the top equipment and proper support the state can provide.

    11. in Spain there is conscription, it’s just paused but it can be resumed by the government immediately without much paperwork.

Aren’t Germany and maybe France reintroducing conscription?

Maps like this are quite misleading when they don’t tell how large percent of the population is actually conscripted.

Conscription in the Netherlands was never abolished, it was suspended.

Crazy, every country bordering Russia deems it vital their population has universal military training. I wonder why that is?

Europe’s gotta get ready: conscription, increased defense spending. Putin’s ready.

    17. ken_the_boxer on

That’s not correct. Netherlands still has conscription, it is just suspended.

Are we sure Poland is not (at least de facto if not de jure) yellow?

Countries thinking about tuning green should be reminded of what “fragging” used to mean during the Vietnam’s War…

    20. What’s with the white space between Romania and Bulgaria? First map I see with that kind of visual artifact.

Whoever made this map is a colossal moron that doesn’t know what the word consistency means.

All the talk about gender equality, but when it comes to the military everyone is quiet it seems.

      Kudos to Sweden and Norway.

    23. Specialist_Pomelo554 on

Those countries that have compulsory conscription for men only recognize the primary role and worth of women is child bearing and rearing and the respective gender rights should take that into consideration.

It’s a big feminist talking point to force a few women to do military service. Atleast one of them blew her brains out already

    25. AdvielOricon on

In 2005 I was part of the last generation that had to register for conscription in Romania. Didn’t do any training but I was on a list somewhere in the military records.

In 2022 when the war in Ukraine got serious. There were talks of calling conscripts for training. I was already 32 and the cut of was 35. If they did do it everyone would be in their 30’s.

      Nothing came of it.
