Seems ethically a little suspect also to discriminate based on nationality like that.

They need a security budget increase.

Based, it has plenty of visitors anyway. Hope they use some of it for better security

This is they way to do it. Europe, let alone Paris don’t struggle about getting enough tourists. There is overtourism and it will only get worse. So if there is high demand – why not ask for more?
I only wish Venice would do something like this but much more drastic. Rather than letting large cruise ship’s in destroying the foundations of Venice with the tourists just being on land for 1-2 hours bringing minimal value with their spending compared to the damage inflected.
This is already standard example in US with national park fees, Thailand’s historical sites can easily be 10x for foreigners or in Japan higher costs for tourists on attractions since June 2025.

Honestly, it is the best collection of the world. Even with a 50€ ticket it’s worth it. You can spend all day in the Louvre and not see everything.

I think it’s justified.
I doubt that this will significantly reduce the number of non-EU tourists.
And if it does, it can be adjusted with special discounts at certain hours or days.

I’ve never been to the Louvre, but do they really force people to show a passport when they buy a ticket? I never heard of that at any other museum.

I think it’s justified as long as it allows for multiple entries.

How come the Louvre has to charge a fortune while the British Museum can afford universally free admission?

How is this different than the American national parks increasing their foreign tourist prices?

Will we see a decrease in people running to the Mona Lisa for a selfie, then walking past much more interesting art to go to the exit?

IDC, not going there anyways

I am not sure if I agree with the “non EU visitors” since ideally you’d want to spread your culture as much as possible
But i agree in general with pushing prices up for non locals (I think it should be for all the non franciliens)

Less people will visit, but more money generated.
