Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday evening that his powerful and polarising chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, had resigned from his post after anti-corruption officials raided his residence and offices earlier in the day.
About a dozen officials from National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (Nabu) and Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (Sapo) conducted the search before dawn in Kyiv’s highly secure government quarter, the agencies said in a joint statement.
The development is likely to further weaken Zelenskyy at a pivotal moment for Ukraine, as he seeks to reassure western partners that he is rooting out entrenched corruption and while US President Donald Trump puts renewed pressure on Kyiv to accept a peace deal.
The raid follows other searches related to a major graft probe, called “Operation Midas”, that has embroiled Zelenskyy’s cabinet, toppled several senior government officials and led to a warrant for the arrest of the president’s former business partner, who has fled the country.
The case has heightened concern among Kyiv’s western allies over persistent corruption as Ukraine continues to seek substantial financial and military support.

How long before Yermak also flees to Israel? Is he there already?

The timing. I wonder what the consequences will be. He’s Zelensky’s right hand and the lead negotiator in the current peace talks.

Obviously it’s not a good news that corruption has been happening for Ukrainians as it undermines their war effort, but it’s a good news that these corruptions are getting exposed and prosecuted.

Funny how people think this makes Zelensky to have a weaker position. When in fact this move gets him a lot of support and trust from Ukrainians. Meaning more legitimacy and stronger stance on peace negotiations.

Even during war, they are tackling corruption better than most….

From saying Ukraine will not sign a peace treaty to himself resigning, it took less than 24 hours.
Makes you wonder, what really happened behind closed doors

Entire Ukraine’s mindset is around corruption. Corruption is to get your kid in the nearest kindergarten, corruption is to get better grades at university, corruption is fix your car, corruption is at all governance levels. It’s just the legacy of Soviet ideology and it is hard to get rid of it. I hope…, really hope.. that today’s Ukrainians really want’s to become western like country… and there is no better day than today to end corruption at any level at any scale. Good job. Better later than never.
But most importantly… the nation should change their mindset. Accepting corruption is not the solution if you want to become better and stronger country.

It is truly disgusting that these politicians in Ukraine are so corrupt and so morally repugnant they steal from the country during a war
And this goes up to Zelensky himself
There is no point pretending otherwise
He was named in the paradise papers, all his close associates and appointees have been exposed or investigated
It feels like the rot of corruption runs deep in Ukraine and Ukrainian deserve better
And don’t come to me with whataboutery about Russia… Ukraine should be held to a much much higher standard to claim it is a democratic country ready to enter the EU and adopt Western values

Honestly this is the same as beeing corrupt police officer. In times of war someone who is part of organising war effort should be judged extremly harsh. We are sending billions to ukraine, but you then have this kind of corruption on top level. No wonder ukraine cant get ahead with some people. I remember they revoked citizenship to some people for less. It’s just ridiculous.
