Pharmaceutical industry and medical industries where EU can have a big advantage in and I personally think this should be exploited. Other industries where EU is making grand stands are playing catch up and to be honest that’s a gamble that might not pay off. EU will have very hard time competing against US in digital services all the small start ups likely won’t unseat the US companies if we are being honest with ourselves. Europe probably won’t outcompete Chinese rare earth metals.
However, I don’t see either China or US having as robust continent wide health care research and pharmaceutical development as EU. EU should make cross country research and medical development easier with standardized ethics protocols and research funding avaliable.

This is possibly the best leverage Europe has over the Americans!

I didn’t know the gap is that big – interesting numbers

This really misrepresents how huge the US is in pharma. It is inflated a lot because the EU countries are exporting to each other and consuming each other’s pharma products which shows up here as exports, but the US states doing the same would not. By revenue, pharma sector in US is 10 times bigger than Germany.

Let’s put a tarriff on it for the USA

Irelands number is crazy for such a small country. Must have been hard to beat such stiff resistance and erect such an industry.

Nice, very nice, but the last European manufacturer of antibiotics recently moved to China.
So they may be a small pill in this graph because we produce lots of other meds, but they can still force us to accept any of their conditions if an epidemic or new pandemic breaks out.
