OTD in 1939 the USSR began to “liberate” Finland in the Winter War. It followed denials, a false flag, a bullshit excuse, deliberate targetIng of civilians while taking massive casualties they lied about.
It is not just about the heroic struggle, or Simo Häyhä, or the poor Ukrainians who died at Raate and Suomussalmi.
It is also about all the civilians who needlessly died for no other purpose than a dictator said it will be so.

Isn’t Winter like the worst possible time to invade anyway? And this is the season they decided to attack Finland, a super wintery country in? Were they expecting a three day special military operation?

Some things never change, huh?
And despite all the setbacks, humiliations, defeats, they push through and get something in the end.
We should push them back with everything we got. They will not stop until they are forced to stop.

Is this when the Molotov cocktail was invented?

I read it was a war of attrition, the Soviet Russia did not care how many were lost.
The ratio I believe was 17 to 1. The Finns grew up with firearms and knew the land they were defending.

It’s important to note that after the initial failures, the Soviet Union reorganized and eventually forced the Fins to surrender Karelia. Finland wouldn’t have a chance to attempt to reclaim it until the Continuation War.

The only question is why the world willingly swallows russian “greatness” times and times again instead of smashing it once and for all?
