It’s illegal for anyone under 16 to ride e-scooters on public roads in Ireland, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping the crashes. Kids are ending up in hospital for an average of 19 days, putting even more pressure on an already overstretched health system.

A lot of this could be avoided if people took more responsible approach and stopped buying escooters for children in the first place.

“We’re calling for enforcement of the existing rules as they are, which seems to be that they exist in principle, but they’re not keeping children safe and safe in practice.”

That’s Ireland in a nutshell.
If a law isn’t enforced, or isn’t enforced fairly, it’s as bad as no law.

One that drives me absolutely fucking mental, is some reckless cunt zooming along the road with a kid on the scooter with them.

Just mental shit.

Whatever it is about them, literally ANYONE I’ve seen on one behaves like  traffic laws don’t apply to them and that they’re bloody invincible. 

Quite apart from the particular danger to children of riding any escooter, the vast majority of escooters that I see for sale are capable of speeds in excess of the legal limit of 20 kph. I deduce from this that most being driven on the roads by adults are illegal and liable to confiscation.

It’s a form of natural selection, anyone with sense won’t give their child one of these and any parent that does? Making sure their dumb genes are taken out of the future breeding pool
