We don’t need new legislation (that will also be up for legal disputes), we just need more judges and more planners to speed up the entire process. Most JRs should be adding a few weeks at most to projects instead they are being used by NIMBYs to slow projects for years, with the ultimate hope that the price increases will cause the projects to be abandoned.

“plans” to do so.
Ah they’re great for the old plans, and commissions and meetings and consultants.
The metro has been “planned” since the 1960s, and we’ve spent millions on it every year since 2000 without actually breaking ground or starting anything, so I’ll believe it when I see it.

Can we stop NIMBYs from holding up projects in general as part of it?

Why aren’t we investing in our courts service and judiciary so that these cases can be heard quickly and promptly when a person/group takes a JR
As much as there is a need to remove false JR’s, there are many JRs taken in good faith. Our courts should be equipped and resourced to hear these important cases asap

I’m glad we’ve spent 15 years in near total paralysis while the population has grown 25%, being told there’s no problem with our system and building less new public transit infrastructure under a green transport minister than any of even Bertie’s governments is normal and we should “wait and see in 10 years when the plans come through”. Well, they ain’t.

Can’t wait for the deregulation of planning process to get abused because some NIMBYs abused the current system in bad faith.
