Someone should let them know they can delete the app at any time or setup their own one.

How many of the taxi drivers protesting will have Uber branding plastered all over their cars?
I have 3 taxi drivers in my estate, and they all advertise Uber on their cars.
Hypocrites!!!

People are only in favour of industrial action if it doesn’t impact them.
This is a regressive step that will mean a paycut for taxi drivers. Uber will do what they always try and do everywhere they are- push down drivers wages and taking a bigger share themselves.
You can compare the support this gets to the response to AIB staff returning to the office.

I’d be careful for people siding with Uber. Extra fees will be charged once they’re the only game in town.

It cost me 17 quid for 4 mins driving the other week, I actually couldn’t care less about taxi drivers feelings and the monopoly they hold over Ireland should be broken. Then the clown complaining he wouldn’t earn 50 an hour if this comes into effect? Fuck off lad. I understand they have over heads but they are a bunch of gouging fucks

I don’t use the Uber app as it’s a shitty company, so why don’t those taxis do the same? They’re not obliged to use it.

Uber – a bad company that will undercut everyone eventually and then charge what it likes
= consumer and taxis loose out.
Taxis as they are – charging what they like and generally having a monopoly
= consumer looses out
Solution, taxis should join together and not use Uber.
And /or tightening of regulations against uber but also improving the value for money for the consumer.

I normally back worker protests and I do not trust Uber to start surge pricing with these fixed rates someday, but I don’t support this protest because of how many times I have been screwed over my taxi drivers.
Not all of course, had some great drivers in the past. But I have had so many taxi drivers charge me an insane amount and clearly go out of their way to make the journey longer (made another comment recently on one in particular who very clearly went out of his way to drive into very serious roadworks that turned my 20€ journey to a €60 one).
And so frequently I had them pull the “oh my card machine is not working” bullshit after they finished the journey even though they confirmed before I got in that they could accept card. I always ask if they accept card if I am getting a taxi. I never carry cash and when I make it clear that I don’t have any cash and remind them that they said that they could accept card, then magically the card machine starts working. But I have had taxi drivers get quite aggressive over that, when they want cash instead of card.
Never once has the card machine not worked. And I have been flat out robbed by taxi drivers with their insane price gouging.

Is this fixed rate charge due to roll out in Ireland or is it just a feature that uber want to roll out *where possible*.
I’m just not seeing much in the way of when this is rolling out, and by blocking up the streets in the city cause they don’t like one App over the rest does not feel it’s putting pressure on the right people.
If uber is circumventing legislation, then go all out. But make than known, your key message, not this “we don’t like it” angle.
They should protest Uber offices (if we have one here?), delete their accounts and give feedback on why.
Delete the app, move to another provider, etc.
Of course make a case to the politicians to ensure something like this can’t be put in place but first check can it even roll out.
Blocking streets because one brand of taxi app isn’t to your liking is just weird. It’s like shutting down the city cause one brand of milk decided to change to UHT. (War crime stuff).
I get and support them to protest but I feel this is not the best way to spread awareness or win support when they are under no obligation to use Uber.
Anyway, Support European, use Bolt. FreeNow is going to become Lyft next year or two.

Would rather support one of the worst companies in the world over some local self employed people. A company that has fought regulation and workers’ rights in literally every country it’s operated in.

There’s a taxi man on our books who has been giving out about the need to do VAT returns for the reverse charge on Uber fees. I keep responding that he’s not obliged to use Uber at all but he won’t drop them. He hasn’t returned the VAT either. They are willingly signing up for Uber, daft to decide to protest over their own choices.

This isnt a unionised dispute and these taxi drivers have no legal immunity for the damage they are doing to the country. This is one group of sole traders holding the population of Dublin hostage in their dispute with a private company. The guards should intervene and arrest the ringleaders for public disorder.

Nobody uses taxi anymore because its too costly = loss of customers. Those that do use taxi get robbed ! And this discourage from using again = no repeat customer base is bad business.
