Still waiting for the BBC News push notification. They’ve been absolutely burying her and the Labour government since Day 1 and their coverage of this nonsense since the budget has been insane.

I’m sure they’ll bury this story as quickly as they can and get back to doing the right-wing’s bidding in just a few short hours.

The times et al were reporting that there was a £30b blackhole for a full month before her speech and they were reporting the same thing after it. She supposedly misled them about the size of the blackhole without actually changing their view as to the size of the black hole. You can see an archived version of the exact same commentary on the alleged blackhole that was supposedly caused by her speech a fucking month before the speech below. If she misled them about its size then they can fucking time travel.

One week there’s a black hole, the next week she’s lying, it seems like the press will report anything as long as it’s negative for Labour.

I’m not particularly a fan of Rachel Reeves, but this whole story has been ridiculous. Reeves never said there was a black hole, she simply expressed there was not a lot of ‘headroom’, so difficult decisions would have to be made to improve the situation. Then the budget went ahead and there wasn’t a lot of ‘headroom’, but what there was, was more than the media and other parties predicted.

It does feel like the media are splitting hairs here because I’m not sure why this is a story at all. Reeves isn’t perfect and I don’t agree with everything she does, but in the grand scheme of things she’s not doing a bad job. After weeks of scaremongering from news outlets, it turns out the budget is actually fine. It’s not anything to celebrate, but equally there’s nothing horrendous in there.

Reeves did mislead the public and I’ll tell you how with a couple policy changes. Why are we still on an archaic electricity pricing system. We pay the highest wholesale prices in Europe. It doesn’t even matter if we get our energy from 99% free renewables. If we import 1% gas, we’re paying the gas price for the whole 100% of electricity supply. We’re getting mugged off and Labour have had no I initiative to change that.

Why? With increased contracts handed out to North Sea oil cob. To obtain windfall taxes to make this budget look better in the near short term.

Again Labour are enacting policies to increase taxes to spend on welfare. They have no regard for the average British family. Reeves and Starmer are solely trying to please backbenchers by increasing welfare spending at the behest of your average working family. That’s one policy. The other 40 billion worth of tax hikes only increase the struggle of working families.

It’s obvious with these short sighted policies which harm working families in the long run.
