The US lobbied several countries in the European Union in an effort to block EU plans to use frozen Russian central bank assets to back a massive loan to Ukraine, according to European diplomats familiar with the matter.

US officials argued to member states that the assets are needed to help secure a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow and should not be used to prolong the war, said the diplomats, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The EU put forward a proposal this week to use the immobilized assets to back a €90 billion ($105 billion) loan to cover Ukraine’s economic and military needs for the next two years. There are about €210 billion of frozen Russian assets on EU soil and more of those could be used from 2028 on.

It’s expected, but only a disgrace if Europe acquiesces.
The way to negotiate wit Putin is to take price off the table and leave him with nothing.

Reminder : the “””peace plan””” pushed forward by the US would have put these assets under US control, with a fat check on 50% of the profits. It was a cash grab attempt Trump style, plain and simple. No wonder they don’t like this loan.

  4. The US want their share of the cake now, i always tought, even under Biden, that it would end like this, with Russia taking the east part while the Us take the ovest, collecting ukraine’s loans and selling the country to american corporations, and europeans have to pay all the costs.

I suppose the US MIC has completely lost influence in Washington, because they would have been pushing the hardest for the USA to keep supporting Ukraine no matter the cost.

What an utter disgrace this administration is….not like everyone and their dog was screaming from the mountaintops last year about this very thing occurring should Trump come back. Americans are tragically dumb and gullible, unfortunately

Of course America didn’t want Ukraine to succeed and for Europe to play an active and positive role in the conflict

USA wants to be in charge
USA plays according to Kremlin goals

    So yeah…

Can someone explain to me why foreign lobbyists are tolerated in the first place?

US has fallen. EU and Ukraine are the last hope of mankind.

The only way Russia should see its money back is in return for the territory they’ve taken. Otherwise it’s going to be a nice fat reward for waging a war of aggression.

If they aren’t going to give it to Ukraine as reparations, they can keep it until there’s a Russia that actually shows some fucking contrition.

  10. The US Peace plan (give Russia everything they ask for, as long as they don’t release the photos of a president molesting children, or blowing somebody) is not really a peace plan. It is a plan for a major war in Europe.

Trump should not give Russia what is not his to dispose of. He can give them Florida or return Alaska to them

  11. The USA used to the World Police. Now they are the World Criminals.

What a terrible fall from grace ..

Should we still call is USA? Or maybe it’s just “Moscow on the Potomac” a more accurate description?

United States of Gilead, seriously by this point we’re better off cutting off the US now before the abuser in Mar A Lago has the opportunity to screw us over at the worst moment

Fuck right off USA. Starts a trade war, antagonizes long standing allies and friends and then expects to dictate or influence policy. Go fuck yourself with a cactus.
