Good move! He is not foolish enough to trust Putin’s representative in the White House.

Good. Trump is so unreliable. He can’t be trusted to keep it out of Putin’s reach.

This money must go to Ukraine, said Merz in Berlin. Ukraine needs to be helped over the winter and possibly financed for the next two to three years. The money to be mobilized for this cannot go to the United States. There are some in Washington who want to derive economic benefit from the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
Chancellor Merz is traveling to Belgium in the evening to speak with Prime Minister de Wever about the possible use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine. EU Commission President von der Leyen is also expected to take part in the meeting. The frozen Russian funds are in Brussels. Because Belgium fears legal consequences and Russian retaliation, the government there refuses to pay out to Ukraine.
As a government spokesman in Berlin announced, the Chancellor will meet privately at a dinner with De Wever and EU Commission President von der Leyen.
Merz has postponed his trip to Norway for the talks in Belgium. The Norwegian King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon originally wanted to receive the Chancellor for an audience at the Oslo Royal Palace this evening. A conversation with Prime Minister Støre was also on the agenda.

Just wondering: Why would Trump expect any nation to pay Russian funds to the US? (My internal reaction is “Who does he think he is?”)

Good. But I am worried that if those funds dont get released soon, the pressure from the US to give them back to Russia will just keep rising and in the end that might happen.
Lets get them to Ukraine, so thats simply not an option anymore. Make it a fait accompli, so it cant be changed.

It’s crazy how we’ve become a country that nobody can trust anymore in such a short amount of time. We’ve turned our backs on our allies in their time of need. Disgusting.
