“Four people have been arrested after custard and apple crumble was flung at a display case containing Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.”

How the BBC missed that easy remanded in custody joke is beyond me.

    >The Metropolitan Police said four people had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and the Tower’s Jewel House has been closed to the public while the police investigation continues.

    Is that necessary?

They already had enough evidence to arrest and it’s covered by CCTV, what are they going to do DNA test the Apple? (Seems they self identified too, and wore campaign t-shirts).

Seems a bit weird given it will be costing thousands per hour.

No doubt it will be evidenced in how the Apple and custard caused tens of thousands of pounds in damage.

Apple crumble is decent but far too often butchered, even at the fine dining level. First thing ya get is that tart ‘hit’ ‘cos not enough balancing elements used (sugar/salt/cinnamon).

Banoffi pie needs to make a major comeback ‘cos that stuff is legendary.

*The group said it carried out the stunt to demand the UK government establishes a permanent citizen’s assembly – a “House of the People” – with the power to “tax extreme wealth and fix Britain”.*

I must be pretty dim because for the life of me I don’t see how making a glass case a bit dirty and causing the minimum wage cleaners a mild inconvenience could ever result in their goals?

Here we go again! Place your bets now, which dumb cliches we see from smug commenters first?

    1. “do they think the crown is ruling the country? huehuehue”
    2. “thank god those idiots’ plan was foiled by the glass display case!”
    3. “now someone has to clean that up, which is far worse than the problem they’re protesting!”

  6. TobyADev on

What a waste of a perfectly good apple crumble and custard 🙁

Now we know why Lammy wants to limit jury trials – it severely punishes protestors like this.

One adult (age 18-64) ticket to the tower of London is £35.80 or £1 if you’re on universal credit.

  9. Don’t worry, there are plenty of redditors here to tell us their genius plan to create the system of government we already have is 1 step closer to fruition because we’re talking about it.

    Absolute timewasters.

All the Crown Jewels are safe. No damage whatsoever. All offenders arrested on the spot.

    UK – France 1:0

I think the people are stupid for doing it but closing down and arresting people because a display case was dirtied seems mental. Its at worst an inconvenience for the minimum wage cleaner to sort but sure piss away thousands making a song and dance about it. Just give the fucking thing a wipe

They’re demanding a ‘House of the people’ with the power to ‘tax the rich’.

Parliament. They’re literally demanding for something that already exists. I know young people don’t vote that much, but these guys apparently don’t even know it’s possible. Fucking hilarious.

If the ravens leave the tower, the monarchy will crumble

They’re in the right place at least just the key to throw away now

I’m disgusted that they didn’t use rhubarb, if just for the theme music alone.

For everyone rushing in to post “lol we HAVE the House of Commons!” I believe their goals are focussed more on demanding the rich pay more taxes which is obviously a cause to support.

  17. Same_Shite_New_Day on

A Take Back Power spokesperson said:

“Since 2011, the poorest 10% of households have paid a combined tax rate of 44% on their income and wealth gains,

    This can’t be true?
I can see how energy and rent has increased, but not tax. The minimum wage has increased too.

Feels like a mr bean skit but instead of him getting away and the guards grumbling while wiping it off, they get nicked and fuckall changes.

All I’m thinking here is surely at some point during their entrance to the Tower some security guard checked a bag, saw some fucking fruit crumble and custard, and went “Sure, totally a thing you should be carrying right here right now”

Great idea! We could call it… I dunno… The Assembly of Commoners. No, that’s too long… maybe the House of Commons.

These guys are probably accidental time travellers who are raging against the King.
