“The club are devastated to report that a Charlton Athletic supporter has died following a medical emergency during today’s game at The Valley against Portsmouth.

The match was halted in the 12th minute while the supporter received treatment and was subsequently postponed.

The club would like to thank the Charlton staff and first responders who did everything they could, but sadly the supporter later passed away in hospital.

The club are grateful to supporters in attendance and the Portsmouth players and staff for their patience and understanding as this tragedy unfolded.

Everyone at the club sends their heartfelt condolences to the supporter’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

Nice statement from their opponents too:

“Portsmouth also paid tribute on its website, saying it was also “devastated”.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with their family and friends at this difficult time,” said Portsmouth in a statement on their website.”

Some things are more important than football, glad to see both clubs doing the right thing.

I saw the fans on their way home early today and wondered what was up. Pretty sad, but the right choice to stop the game.

This can happen to anyone. A friend collapsed at a game and it ended up with two helicopters landing on the pitch. Luckily the paramedics saved his life that day.

To provide some context. This was one of the best known fans of the club. I’ve historically only really gone to away games, but he was one of the fans I saw there every time and think he got an award from the club pretty recently.

    Gutting

It’s just the most devastating news ever. Norm was very well known to all charlton fans, regularly attending home and away games. A true legend. If anyone was interested further, here’s a video of him a few years back talking about his love for the club: [video](https://www.charltonafc.com/news/view/5ee7aebb46906/once-an-addicknorman)

I was disappointed with the Portsmouth fans. Chanting ‘let him die’ on the train back, booing when the game got abandoned. Just truly awful. Headphones Norm will be missed ❤️
