>The protestors want to save it from being bulldozed and replaced with a glass and metal “travel hub”.
The horror.

Imagine having the luxury of your biggest problem being the refurbishment of your local public transport link…

Stuff like this is why we can’t have nice things.
Imagine being in one of the few places where they want to replace the collapsing infrastructure and stopping it from happening. They are welcome to come replace buildings near me if the protesters are causing too much of a problem

Having seen this station and stop not that long ago, it is a historic steam railway with a historic bus stop on its site, that is also the active stop.
Its seemed well maintained, well decorated, free from graffiti, provided good shelter and was utterly fitting for its location and the purpose of the site.
It seems that this “work” is part of a transport project that wants to replace the old stop with a modern glass one that is, to be moved roughly a bit over a whole bus shelter closer to the corner of the road junction so its Not on the same site as the current stop.
So demolition seems to be pointless as its not a like for like replacement. Seems like the easy option would be just to leave it as an artefact of the historic rail site.

It’s a windswept misery.
Originally it may have had glass, which would make it much more tolerable. But it has been the same bare barren concrete for years. Yes a mural makes it look nicer but the steam train right behind you is much nicer to look at.
I get Shannocks like things to stay the same and the replacement is somehow uglier (well done Highways department) but this really does feel like overkill…
That said. It’s an absurd hill for county Highways to pick a fight on. Half the bus stops in Norfolk have barely got a sign!

Keep the shelter, build a new one next door perhaps?

The problem is the bus shelter happens to be too close the footpath which means lots of congestion as bus passengers, and tourists in general jostle to get on or past, with lots of walking in the road. So NCC decided a new shelter and a well used green space needed refreshing.
NCC performed perfunctory consultation at best and thought they could get away with it on land they own using permitted development rights. Except they don’t own all of it. The land the shelter stands on is owned by the town council and that has brought the shelter demolition to a halt. The town council had agreed to the shelter’s demolition but are now under pressure to rescind that decision. Add into the mix one of the senior highways blokes at NCC putting his missus up to speak on behalf of the scheme “as a member of the general public” on the BBC no less.
All in all a proper shitshow which doesn’t bode well for the forthcoming local government reorganisation which will make the local district council redundant to be replaced by a remote unitary council which will probably Norfolk CC renamed.
You could not make this up.

The flag shaggers and roundabout painters need to take note, this is real British values. A pointless protest about a bus shelter. I love these guys.

I’ve waited for a bus from there! I think we should save it.
The art in the bus shelter is beautiful. I think the protestors have a point here in objecting to destroying it to erect yet another steel and glass monstrosity.

Hose them down and they’ll be on their way before long.

So the council wants to save money – but insists on knocking down a bus shelter that all the local residents want to keep..
The logical thing would just be to keep it….
Why do the council even want to knock it down ?

This clearly is against the wishes of the [local residents](https://www.change.org/p/save-sheringham-s-historic-brick-bus-shelter) and their [elected representatives.](https://www.change.org/p/save-sheringham-s-historic-brick-bus-shelter) The new shelter is such an [unsympathic downgrade](https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/article/68881/Sheringham-Travel-Hub) especially when it’s been [freshly painted](https://artuk.org/discover/artworks/station-bus-shelter-334123) and the new design still won’t have any comfortable seating – maybe instead of demolishing it we could just add a better bench?
