    My body is ready.

He has just been there and they have openly discussed this with quite some confidence.

I wish Macron would be quite for a few weeks and stop embarrassing France and Europe. People are critical of other European leaders like Merz and Rutte but at least they carry themselves with some respect even when pandering to Trump it sounds better than Macron’s constant international failures. First he was frantically calling Putin because he wanted to be the mediator and was ignored. He was trying something similar with Trump and was ignored as well. Now he went to Xi thinking he would be a grand alliance maker and was probably ignored by China and lashes out. He should first take care of France and stop cosplaying Napoleon. Without France fixing domestic problems the country will not be taken seriously.

no macron, don’t you remember, trade surpluses aren’t a problem. there’s no threat of chinese overcapacity and tariffs should be avoided.

we just spent a year saying that, what are we supposed to memory hole that?

So for China to avoid tariffs it needs to invest in France and Macron will make it all go away with the EU?

The biggest overcapacity China has are rare earths. They should stop all exports and balance trade.

This is the exact reason why Trump put tariffs on so many countries

Didn’t Macron just come back from China? There was talk about France asking China to force Russia to end the war.

    Did talks not go well?

Remember, events and news headlines don’t occur in a vacuum.  Macron came back and got a panda for France, it is odd but that has almost always been a very good sign that China thought the negotiations went well.  Macron also hit at America and Germany here.  The US seems to be trying to distance the EU and US.  China could easily follow this up with a positive message that they will work with the EU on solving this issue without tariffs and announce investments into more pro-China countries.

Saudi Arabia got a combat drone factory at a whiff of moving away from the US.  China could announce a joint venture and tech transfer for a drone factory in France with key components made in France.  This would create jobs down stream and up stream for France, see capital moving from China to France, and increase demand in industries France wants to see greater demand in.  For China it means stronger ties to the EU economy, allows them to take a shot at the Netherlands over Nexperia while pivoting into a message that they want better industrial cooperation but EU bureaucracy makes it difficult so could push more openly for less tape to launch ventures in the EU which would likely play well as a message for them.

China has already leveraged investments in some of the more Southern European nations for a more positive image so it would not be out of character for them and some EU corporate leadership would jump at the potential investment and the message against red tape would be red meat for them and others.

Most people in this thread won’t understand, but tariffs won’t be near the idiotic level that trump implemented.

Watch Europe get it right again

Dude, why would anyone support the state forcing people to buy more expensive stuff

  11. LazerBurken on

    Lol.

Europe (and US) has been exporting/off-shoring all production to China for the last few decades to be able to produce cheap shit for companies to earn a shit ton of money.

And if worked fine for a long time as China didn’t make anything of quality themselves. Problem is, now China is both the innovator and the producer making European companies obsolete. They took our IP and we teached them everything we know. The same companies that off-shored their shit to China to make money are now fucked by their own greed. Super mega fucked.

Tariffs are likely the only way to protect European companies and jobs in the union. Otherwise we will never be able to compete against China. And it’s our own fucking fault for being so fucking greedy for the past decades.

Europe is a dying region under immense pressure from China, Russia and the US who all wants us dead. It’s a disaster.

    Idiots.
