2 new additions to the 4 existing orders; 6 boats total. About $4.5bn on the new boats, plus weapon systems and upgrades for all 6 boats. The rest of the money is the “long range strike” enhancements which are army rather than Navy

Germany will most likely order more 212CD subs from TKMS as well and Canada may also join the program, although nothing concrete on that yet.
But generally speaking, speed is expensive – the subs are needed ASAP and for that to happen, production facilities will have to be massively upgraded, which explains the high costs. Plus, raw materials and critical components a lot more expensive now than they were in 2021 when the first batch of subs was ordered.
Norway is investing serious money in their maritime, land and air capabilities, adding some crucial muscle to defend their own vast territories and the North Atlantic in general. All the Nordics are doing a very good job.

Yo keep it up Norway, I’m counting on you to save us when the Russia-US alliance start their invasion of western and eastern Europe.

Submarines obey the rule of three (1 for maintenance, 1 for training, 1 for patrol) so going from 4 to 6 effective doubles Norway’s capability.

The actual subs will not cost $6.4bn, that includes a lot more than that. [Hartpunkt](https://www.hartpunkt.de/norwegens-regierung-spricht-sich-fuer-die-beschaffung-zwei-weiterer-u-boote-bei-tkms-aus/) had a more detailed article on the issue.
