“People are being asked to help identify a man in a hi-vis vest after £2,000 was stolen from a man in his 80s.

The victim was in West Bromwich high street when he was approached by a man who began cleaning food from his jacket after it had seemingly been sprayed on him.

The elderly man accidently dropped an envelope containing cash and a man grabbed it and ran away.

Officers say the theft happened on 29 October, between 11:30 and 11:50 BST, but now have a CCTV image they want the public’s health with.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We would like to talk to the person in the images as we believe he could have vital information to help with our investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting crime number 20/425578/25. Or alternately call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

It reads like this was a targeted attack, which is so cruel. Hopefully, the perpetrator can be caught and the victim supported.
