Europe has a world class military-industrial complex already that is being massively upgraded, thanks to European countries finally taking security matters seriously and spending accordingly.
There is literally nothing that we can’t build ourselves (eventually) and a lot of progress is being made in recent months.
The problem that Europe has is time – the US will leave NATO rather sooner than later, a gap that needs to be filled relatively quickly. Hence, keeping them onboard for as long as possible to win time is crucial.
Once that cut happens, though, everything changes. And everything should be on the table then, including a genuinely European nuclear shield.

That should include securing each country’s democracy from being hijacked. Each country can have a formidable military, but when the far right comes to power, they won’t even use it. They will sell out each country, one by one to Russia without a bullet needing to be fired. It’s painfully obvious what is happening and it’s like watching a chess match being lost in slow motion, while screaming at the loser what needs to be done.

Europe is 50 years too late in that. It’s more of survival game now, and EU has to work to weather USA’s openly anti-EU campaign. She should stop taking whatever she is smoking if she thinks there is room of playing big game in the current world without EU stopping to bend over for USA. USA doesn’t even involve EU in negotiation to physically reshape the EU. Let’s stop living in fantasy land.

It is interesting to see more leaders pushing for strategic independence instead of relying too heavily on external partners. The next few years will show whether Europe can turn this ambition into action.
