Crimping technique needs a little work but then again, a lot of natives aren’t exactly masters at it.

Why do Americans use disposable kitchenware so much?

Rating the looks of your cookings

      Soup 10/10

      Blueberry pie 7/10

      Karelian pastries 5/10

I’m sure they tasted wonderful though 🙂

I bet you are going to get many comments about those karelian pies, and I bet many of the commenters have never made them themselves! Thats a respectable attempt and I bet they were amazing. Lohikeitto is one of my own favorites, looks delicious!

      Are your roots in Finland?

Looks good. By making Karelian pies yourself, you’re probably ahead of most Finns. I personally just buy them pre-made, frozen, and just heat them in the oven. Remember to eat them with egg-butter spread (or whatever “munavoi” is in English).

I use to live in MI, and really regret that did not visit relatives and Finnish places, while in there.

Gratz, you just made the only 3 good dishes in finnish cuisine 😂

      looks great!

We typically use mustikka (bilberry) for the pie, smaller wild grown variant of blueberry. Do you have those available in Michigan?

Reheat the karelian pies in an airfryer, just a little bit of butter or oil on top, high heat for a couple of minutes or so. Trust me, it’s yummy!

I recently made lohikeitto for a class potluck at my uni! I live in North Carolina so it was a very unusual dish for my classmates. They loved it though! I really want to try making karjalanpiirakka soon.

    11. They all look and surely taste great👏 How has you friends & family liked Finnish foods?

Those kajalanpiirakka look like the ones I made when I made them first time. Absolutely crusty, though no doubt delicious.

Pinching the dough correctly is a process and a half and takes a surprising amount of finger dexterity.

Thats a fantastic looking lohikeitto and the rahkamustikkapiirakka is looking good as well. Despite the fact that you did use blueberries instead of bilberries. Though I imagine getting European variety is a big tough across the big pond.

Ooh, very good! My attempt at karjalanpirakka got the shape more right, but uh… definitely needs work on the actual pastry recipe.
