    Germany:
“**Section 188 of the Criminal Code protects politicians from such infringements on their reputation, with violations punishable by a fine or up to five years in prison.”**

**”**Section 188 was expanded in 2021 to include “insults” alongside defamation and slander when directed at “persons in political life” in a way that could substantially impair their public activities.”

The trouble with these rankings is that they create the impression of trouble where there isn’t.

No serious person should think that press freedom in Ireland is somehow much-much better than press freedom in France.

its always so funny seeing Italy so low down on these lists. god, these people have no clue lmaoo. One of the most popular news broadcasts is legit a caster rage-baiting people in government by surprising them on the street. “problematic” my ass.

reminder that in the UK you can go to jail for Facebook comments and yet it is higher on the list. 😂😂

UK: has a centre-left government, arrests you for tweets and even retweets: 20th

Italy: has a right wing government that opposes chat control: 49th

  5. Romania has plenty of problems but press freedom isn’t one of them

As a person of Turkish background I am very glad to see other outraged reactions in the comments section

My country of origin does have an issue with censorship but to rank it anywhere near Russia is a fucking joke. Westerners will do that about any country that doesn’t kiss their ass omfg

Wow we’re really low 💀. At least we know what interests each media represents and filter any information accordingly

The press in the Netherlands was very certainly not free in the early months to a year of the genocide in Palestine.

Armenia is 34th, not in the list, but still impressive, if you look at the neighborhood, i think there is still room for improvement.
It’s divers, but very polarized and the financial sources sometimes shady.

  14. Go figure the last 3, those leaderships the world could very much do without.

Russia over Belarus is stupid. There are independent journalists in Russia still, in Belarus it’s laughable to even imagine that

As a German, I don’t understand why we are in 11th place.

You can say and write whatever you want here, even fake news is no problem, as long as you don’t insult, discredit, or defame anyone, and even then, the threshold is really high.
