The reason why billionaires want a small government isn’t, because they want a free society, but because they want a weak government, so that they can take anything they want without anyone to stop them.

It’s the conflict between equality and freedom.

Freedom isn’t always against equality, but it’s sometimes against it, as freedom can be abused by bad-faith actors in taking away the rights of others, which is why the right to equality usually is the most important one.

Because, if you allow anyone to have the freedom to take away the rights and the freedoms of another, then you and everyone else is in danger of being next.

There’s no choice but to restrain some freedoms in order to have a society of equal rights.

There was a saying in the French Revolution that the French aristocracy was not part of the nation of France and that they were the enemies of France. I didn’t understand it back then but now I fully understand: The wealthy from today and from yesterday have political and financial interests that are contrary to the interests of the nation and they are ready to completely destroy their countries in order to achieve their own, personal goals.

The wealthy French had no interesting in ending the hunger crisis prior/during the French Revolution because they had massive amounts of grain stored that they could use to extort their subjects in need even more. This lead to massive amounts of deaths and the nation declined economically and politically due to that.

Same goes for today: the billionaires don’t care about us plebs being indebted, paying sky high rent, us being unemployed, us being unable to afford children – they see financial opportunities in our suffering. The only roadblock is the government – that pesky thing that gives us a social safety net so we don’t starve to death and so we can demand a somewhat livable wage. They want to get rid of the welfare state, consumer protection and all restrictions/regulations in order to get so much power that we will be forced to turn into serfs for our feudal lords.

No one person should be in position to BUY laws. And all attempts to complete remove money from politics failed so far. The only solution is removing billionaires from society (just to clarify, taxing them into millionaires)
