On Tuesday morning, President Petr Pavel appointed the chairman of the ANO movement, Andrej Babiš, as prime minister at Prague Castle. A coalition government made up of representatives of ANO, SPD, and Motorists for Themselves is expected to be formed. The president plans to appoint it in the coming days. Babiš has already submitted his proposal for ministerial appointments to the president. Filip Turek is not included in it.
Babiš took the oath in the presence of the president and confirmed it with a handshake and his signature.
Pavel stated that appointing Babiš fulfills the will of the voters. He reminded Babiš that he will have to resolve the conflict-of-interest issue. He also mentioned the tense international situation that the new cabinet will have to deal with. “We will have to address a number of problems that will not be pleasant for the public and will require not only vision, but also courage, and will require that our ties to the EU and NATO remain unquestioned,” the president added.
The president also reminded the prime minister of domestic social issues and the need for overall social cohesion, which will also have to be addressed.
“Wishing you much success and strength,” Pavel concluded.
Babiš promised citizens that he “will fight for their interests not only at home but everywhere in the world,” and that he will “do everything possible to make the Czech Republic the best place to live on our entire planet.”
**Fiala congratulated Babiš**
The formation of the cabinet will depend on the president’s discussions with Babiš; the president will announce the exact date once he receives the official proposal for the government’s personnel lineup from the prime minister.
The president gradually met with the ministerial candidates to hear their priorities. The exception was the nominee of Motorists for Themselves for the post of environment minister, Filip Turek, about whom Pavel has reservations, and who excused himself for health reasons. The coalition parties insist on his nomination.
Babiš has already received congratulations from the outgoing prime minister, Petr Fiala (ODS). “Until his government is appointed, the Hrzánský Palace will be fully available to him and his team. We will ensure that the handover of the government proceeds completely smoothly,” Fiala said.
Seventy-one-year-old Babiš, who already headed the cabinet between 2017 and 2021, will be the oldest prime minister in the history of the Czech Republic as well as former Czechoslovakia. After his appointment, he will have thirty days to resolve the conflict of interest; Babiš has previously announced that he will give up ownership of the company Agrofert.

This guy and his crew is a bad news for Czechia and maybe for EU. Thank god we’re too small to matter. It’s something between Orban and Trump. Another super rich dude with main character syndrome. And funny thing, he’s not even a Czech, he was born Slovak. I didn’t vote for this corrupt ****

I guess they are in top 10 range already. But with an oligarch at the helm, it can only go downhill from there.
First slip below Slovakia, then Hungary, and then Belarus…

Babiš always runs a scare campaign but in reality ANO is the “nothing ever happens“ party.
