    > Comedian Ricky Gervais has announced a substantial donation of almost £2.5 million to a range of animal welfare organisations, generated from the proceeds of his recent “Mortality” stand-up tour.

    > The 64-year-old entertainer **has distributed £2.43 million among 22 charities**, including prominent groups such as the PDSA, International Animal Rescue, Celia Hammond Animal Trust, and Animals Asia. These funds were raised from the additional profits garnered through platinum seating sales during his tour, which ran from 2024 to 2025.

    And not the first one:

    > This latest philanthropic effort follows a similar gesture from his previous ‘Armageddon’ tour, which earned him a Golden Globe and saw £1.9 million donated to charity.

    > This brings the total **charitable contributions from his four most recent specials to over £5 million**.

    > Among the other beneficiaries are Libearty Sanctuary, Pangea, Wild Futures, All Dogs Matter, Dogs On The Streets, Paws2Rescue, Edinburgh Dog And Cat Home, Saving Strays, Chaldon Animal Sanctuary, Turgwe Hippo Trust, Safe Haven For Donkeys, and Catastrophes Cat Rescue.

    > Further donations will support Finding Shelter Animal Rescue, Flori’s Friends Animal Rescue, NYC Second Chance Rescue, Helping Rhinos, and Retreat Animal Rescue.

    > The distribution sees four charities each receiving £150,000, 17 organisations allocated £100,000 each, and the remaining £132,000 designated for Nowzad.

As long as no money went to PETA then I am ok with this.

  3. CPAG estimates 4.5 million children in England grow up in poverty. Spending this much on animal charities seems to me to miss a much more important point.

Almost certain people on here will look for a reason as to why this is actually a bad thing because it’s Ricky Gervais.

Fair play to him. He can be obnoxious in his style of humour, but he’s a decent bloke.

  6. dazmania616 on

He’s always made it clear the money from the expensive seats at the front rows of his shows will always go to animal charities.

  7. marvin_000 on

Of course donating to animal charities is commendable, didn’t he make a lot of that money by repeatedly shitting on trans people?

  8. a3minutehero on

There goes Ricky Gervais. I must remember to thank him.

I dislike his obsession with woke stuff but I can’t dislike a guy who helps animals. Credit to him for this move.

Fair play. Find him cringe but glad charities are getting cash

    Good on him.

Charity should be rewarded and encouraged.

    £2.43m

    It made my eyes water.

    Can confirm headline is accurate.

Philanthropy should be encouraged and congratulated.

Rich people used to give back to society.

    Too much wealth is hoarded.

And he gives basically nothing to his family.

    It’s all for show.

This guy would rather give 2.43 million to charity than pay 2.43 million in taxes to a British government that will spaff it on migrants and i fully support him.

He hasn’t been funny since he left Steve Merchant, but fair play to him. Solid donation that

  17. Fair fucking play.

He’s not my cup of tea, but credit where its due. We should absolutely all be praising and supporting this kind of thing, regardless of how you feel about the individual.

  18. PsycommuSystem on

Fair play to him, as a saucer drinker who listens to the XFM shows every day and thinks his recent stuff is absolute shite, he does stand by his words when it comes to charity.

  19. Jensablefur on

    Good for him.

As others say, he hasn’t hit the same since him Steve Merchant and Karl Pilkington all seemed to fall out (you just know it was messier behind the scenes than what we’ve been told), but can’t argue with this

  20. dashmckenzie on

Or, “taxation”, as it would be called if the rich paid it

  21. no_fooling on

I knew it would be for animals. Christ, i like ricky but his disdain for his fellow man and his love of animals is so misguided. You know we could help a lot more animals if there wasnt so many poor people just trying to survive and less rich people exploiting natural resources for profit.

  22. SavingsSquare2649 on

Biggest shock of this to me was reading that he’s now 64!

Fair play to him for donating so much.

  23. Good for him at-least he donated a real amount proportional to his income not like some of these donations that get headlines ie from a disney or Microsoft that donates 3 million which is like the equivalent of me donating 3 pounds

  24. limeflavoured on

Hes been doing this for years. I don’t particularly like his comedy, but this isnt new.

Only time I’ve ever watched any of the awards stuff was him ripping the piss out of the room in the 2020 global globes. Also the reactions as the camera panned around were something. Still on YT as well
