I think this is a good idea in principle. However is it wise to have 50% of our population dependant on water from one source and supplied via one pipeline. I presume I must be missing something here because that strikes me as very risky. Are they going to maintain the existing supplies as backup?

Would probably be better to just fix the leaks in the Dublin water pipes. Over 40% is lost to leaks. Fixing them would have a double benefit – prevent wasting drinking water Na remove the need for this Shannon pipe.

Water from the Shannon is full of organic matter which is why Limericks water quality is so low.
