Slightly more up to date in 2025: https://cepa.org/article/going-going-the-us-base-network-in-europe/

    > As of early 2025, there were roughly 84,000 US service members across the United States European Command (EUCOM) area of responsibility, including troops deployed after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

    > Meanwhile, NBC News reported on April 8 that up to 10,000 US troops would be withdrawn from Poland and Romania.

Maybe at some point Europe will learn to walk by itself like an adult.

SHAME, the correct number is 0

How many bases Europe have in USA? Exactly…0

Perhaps, I can’t read, but Hungary is highlighted, but not listed…

  5. As far as I know USA dosn’t have a base in Estonia that only they operate. There are just some American troops here as well as UK troops and other NATO troops in Estonian bases together with Estonian troops.

I don’t think this map includes the national military bases that the US has free no-questions-asked access to via DCA, like in Sweden 🇸🇪, Denmark 🇩🇰 and Finalnd 🇫🇮 for instance.

Bases for fat uneducated ratards, who forgot all about John Lock’s liberal ideals.

Just in case they forget…Canada is a sovereign nation.

  9. American bases or NATO bases? Because at least in Romania, there are contingents from a number of allies.

I heard Americans like getting assigned to Germany because guaranteed 3 year stay and easy access to all Schengen countries. Just drive across the border and you’re there.

If they find a home off base, they can live in German neighborhoods and learn German culture. For them, once in a lifetime oppertunity because it’s like getting an expat job. If Germany closes down, it’s just South Korea, Japan, or Guam left.

News at 9, most European countries are members of NATO. Meanwhile the Dutch NATO sec gen Mark Rutte thinks Russia will attack Europe next.

for everyone saying “actually, there are no bases in X”

US military base sites fall under two main categories:

Large bases or “Bases”: Defined as military installations larger than 4 hectares (10 acres) or worth more than $10 million. These bases typically have in excess of 200 US military personnel. 439 or 60 percent of the US’s foreign bases fall under this category.

Small bases or “Lily Pads”: These bases are smaller than 4 hectares(10 acres) or have a value of less than $10 million. These include cooperative security locations and forward operating sites. The remaining 40 percent of US foreign bases fall under this category.

Very strange comments. What do the low IQ European nationalists think would happen if the US pulled out all of its forces from Europe tomorrow? Some people here seriously seem to have deluded themselves into thinking that the Belgian or Spanish Armed forces will step up and fill the gap. Totally and utterly clueless.

European countries where these are stationed actually provide Financial assistance. So pulling these troops from Europa is actually gonna raise the Bill for the USA…
    Go figure!

  15. Got mixed feelings about US “bases” i Norway.

US having prepositioned equipment here makes it so that they participate in more exercises and with a larger contingent.

However there’s a cost-sharing going on. So we are paying for the storage of US equipment. Having US on exercises is also less valuable.

I’m not going to deny that the USMC holds a high standard but right now it feels like Europe more than anything needs to train on large scale operations without US coordination and support. Are the US increasing the quality of our exercises or do they simply make them less realistic?

Europeans act like we want to be there or something and that governments ages ago didn’t make these decisions without public opinion being considered. Do you actually think the average American gives a rat’s ass about you and wants their tax dollars going toward your country in any capacity? Not even close.

It’s about time they learn to defend themselves against a real threat anyways. Europe has existed and often thrived for thousands of years I’m sure it will be fine without us if it decides to nut up for once lmao

Also, I’m not sure why this is difficult to figure out but the map doesn’t show bases only which is why countries without bases are on here. I’m assuming it includes other entities as well. Perhaps American embassies etc. Despite Trump not being a fan of NATO it still persists but for some reason people don’t know how NATO works

The one in Portugal is on the Azores islands, so the wrong part of the country is signaled.

Everyone always forgets the US bases in the occupied territories of Cyprus

Some of these are nothing burgers.

Some like the UK, Germany, Italy, are significant.

Some are simply prepositioned supply depot’s without any major staffing.

How much power and ability would they lose in, let’s say, the Middle East, without those bases? How much power would they lose if we told them to fuck off?

Bosnia had a US base that was handed over to the Bosnian Armed Forces in 2007.

Currently there’s a NATO base/headquarters in Sarajevo. Don’t know what that counts as.
