  1. I’d love to have a phone like this that interoperates with things like FaceTime, iMessage, AirPlay, etc. The DMA should be expanded to open up these proprietary features.

    Just don’t.

    Jolla was embezzled the crowd-sourced funds they for pre-orders of their tablet project, went bankrupt and bought by some company with strong connection to the Russian state. (I’ve heard the got sold again since then, but haven’t seen official documents.)

    Their system (Sailfish OS) is basically as open or free as Android. Both builds on a few open / free core components, but most important bits (most of the apps you use) are proprietary / closed.

    If you want a secure, privacy-friendly smartphone buy (ironically) a Google Pixel and flash GrapheneOS onto it.

    edit: European alternatives are (would be) good, but don’t let yourselves to be fooled by companies with at least questionable background riding on the buy European sentiment.

    Jolla should have a long way ahead to get (back) peoples’ trust.
