The Gardai in westmeath have no problem finding brothels.
A friend rented out his apartment in Athlone after he moved in to his fiancee’s place. Later found out it was being used as a brothel, and the gardai would not do anything about getting the renters out.
Isn’t there some strange law here where brothels are illegal but prostitution itself isn’t? Something like that?

Yeah, it’s legal to recieve payment for sex. But illegal to pay or offer to pay. Crimialises the John rather than the prostitute. Brothels are illegal.

Ireland has really shit sex work laws. It’s all skull and dagger which leaves the door open for exploitation and trafficking. If it was legal with a proper regulator then the women who want to do it can safely and the lads who go for that kind of thing won’t end up funding scumbag traffickers. It’s women mainly against legalizing prostitution though so it’s a women vs women issue. The way it works nowadays leads to horrific shit like the woman who was assaulted by her customer in ennis but the government just says no it’s legal to sell sex now she can go to the gardai if it happens whereas if it was regulated there would have been no need to have a woman basically handling everything herself from security, discretion and location leaving her vulnerable to the dodgy sort. My two cents anyway
