Kind of is Belgium rn though too. And whoever else is going to try and trip this plan up.

No Surprise. Along with the blockade of Venezuela to force a raise in oil prices, the US is going all out to aid its ally Russia.

Standing together in good times is easy. What matters is whether we can stand firm when darkness sets in.
I truly believe the Trump–Putin alliance is the greatest threat we’ve faced since World War II and this is the moment to prove it’s not just a façade, that Europe can hold its ground.

This is crazy. We have prime ministers threatening to use qualified majority to push the loans through and comparing them to Hungary and isolating Belgium from decision making. Do they want to destroy the unity of the union?

    > Two months later, it’s clear the EU’s problem isn’t really Belgium, it’s Trump

I’m pretty sure the EU’s problem is its lack of spine, not Trump. We can replace Trump with any other leader and it’d be the same problem.

The problem is EU leadership contains politicians who are either on American or Russian payroll. Or both. And you cannot expect someone receives considerable payments from these two hostile entities and would still work for the benefit of EU. Thus, creating a division in EU leadership who will never agree on a common agenda to tackle the AmeRussia threat.

Easy to blame the US for all of the EU’s problems. But unfortunately, that doesn’t actually fix the problems.

EU can’t strongarm Trump (whatever credibility they had as a counterweight to America was lost the moment UvDL capitulated on the trade deal) but if the EU cannot even strongarm Belgium it will lose any remaining credibility as a cohesive political entity capable of independent decision making. Why should middle powers like India or Brazil or Japan bother with the EU when it couldn’t enforce its will on a small member state (Belgium is not France or Germany)? They should just take their matters directly to France / Germany / Belgium / Hungary / Poland.

EU will be under pressure as long as Putin has his dick in Trump’s mouth

eu’s problem is that they don’t know how decisions are made if there is no usa to tell them what to do

  11. Just a reminder – EU has bigger total GDP than USA, but some countries, like Blegium, kept supper low defense funding. So yes – EU’s problem in this particular context IS Belgium.

The problem is lack of solidarity with Belgium, not Trump. These guys have a history of being tramped under the overarching interests of European powerhouses. It’s no surprise that they learned from it.

It might snoud bad, but I feel like if Hungary, Slovakia or Poland were doing the same thing Belgium is doing now, the reaction would be way more hostile towards them
