*If the UK gets its way, operating systems like iOS and Android would “prevent any nudity being displayed on screen unless the user has verified they are an adult through methods such as biometric checks or official ID. Child sex offenders would be required to keep such blockers enabled.” The Home Office “has initially focused on mobile devices,” but the push could be expanded to desktops, the FT said. Government officials point out that Microsoft can already scan for “inappropriate content” in Microsoft Teams, the report said.*

I would hope the British would vote these bureacratic fools out of office. Government officials that want to spend time trying to censor people’s phones rather than make people’s lives better deserve to be ousted from their positions.

British speedrunning being the worst country in the world ?

We got rid of the puritans 400 years ago. Can we send the new wave to Mars or something.

This is more retarded than I could ever imagine. How do you even enforce this on desktops? Like you wouldn’t be able to get some open source os without it

At this rate it might be profitable to start printing pictures and burning DVDs like it’s the 1980s again.

I can’t take this seriously because it just shows the level of daft in government as per usual.

To scan all our phone for everything to find nudes. How TF is this not creeping EVERYONE out??!

  8. I thought UK had a center left PM ? Did the far right actually won in there ? Or is it now that center left is EU friendly fascism ?

Taking “No sex please, we’re British” to the extreme.

  10. Nuclear-Jester on

Does Starmer want everyone to be miserable like himself in the few years (or months) he has left as UK PM?

This still won’t solve the issue that a child might see nudity elsewhere or think about it (I can imagine a unicorn, even though I’ve never seen one). Perhaps we should remove their eyeballs and drug them up so they have no ability to imagine until they’re 18.

Just checked that updates and store are switched off on my android, just in case. I’m definitely having Huawei as my next phone to have google free version of Android with separate store

Well, it appears we inadvertently elected a convent of carmalite nuns into power, we didn’t recognise or acknowledge the power of the wimple, but here we are.

What the fuck is their problem.

The human body is not a crime. It isnt an offense to see a breast or a penis or a vagina any more than it is to see a leg or an ear.

The country is divided, ethnic and religious tensions are bubbling under the surface and the government want to impose a titty ban.

    Fucking hell.

  15. Bobo3076 on

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again.

This shit should be causing mass protests. Why the fuck are we just sitting about letting our government turn our country into a mass surveillance state?

  16. Jfc .. they need to go back to the TV shows they made in the 70s and 80s and remind themselves how many titties they showed on screen.

WE ARE FUCKING ADULTS. I DONT PARTAKE IN A FUCKIN NANNY STATE‼️

What’s the problem? Underage porn use and normalisation of it is rife amongst children. Unless you’re down with Epstein I can imagine you think that’s wrong.

We have ID checks for a lot of things that can cause damage, like alcohol, tobacco, sharp things. So why not this?

Before the internet no shopkeeper would sell an adult magazine to kids.

As a parent, I support it.

  19. UKAOKyay on

It’s a tricky one, nudity and porn are generally age restricted in all other forms of media, I can see the logic but then again I’m quite old and had to go into a shop to buy my porn as a teen so maybe I just want others to experience that /s

    > The UK’s “Home Office is expected to encourage companies to introduce such controls as part of its strategy to tackle violence against women and girls”

Is gay porn still ok then?

  21. Bismarck_k on

I believe that the intention is good, states think in different ways than individuals, they want to limit child exposure to sex in early age for valid reasons. Perhaps this effort should be applied somewhere else where the output is maximal. Where to hit rightly is a million dollar question.

  22. buster_de_beer on

Once they have that in it becomes trivial to block any content they don’t like.

  23. Can we please stop speedrunning 1984 with all this chat controlls and scanning every photo? Please, for at least 1 month. Give me a break

  24. Jensen1994 on

Every week Labour wants to meddle and interfere in people’s lives more and more.

  25. mintgoody03 on

What‘s up with this UK-borne puritanical shit, censoring and control lately?

  26. jm_coppede on

In my opinion, nothing about puritanism is far removed from that, but rather from the kind of self-serving behavior motivated by revenge and extortion.

Furthermore, not content with that, many people generate nude photos of friends or coworkers using AI.

That’s what I think they want to stop.

  27. R3v3r4nD on

What are you on about? Mommy government knows what’s better for you and your kids. Say „thank you” and behave yourself

  28. Nerioner on

Yea that’s what the modern era problems are, that people have nudity on their phones. Nothing else is going on bad for us so we may stop people from being naughty…

This is pathetic excuse for an reality

Fuck you, Orwell! You shouldn’t have written a manual for ~~Oceania~~ the UK!
