If you scroll down a bit you see titles like this – “Winter outages may be looming on overloaded Dutch power grid”.
I hope all the ai slop is worth it.

And? It’s clearly we just need more electricity production, rather than nagging about it. Data centers are clearly needed.

What a surprise! Industrial power usage is higher than residential!

And most of this used for surveillance, pointless AI services and social media brainrot…

The cost of being the #1 DC/infra location in Europe.

I’m all for hating on AI, but data centres don’t just do AI stuff (I imagine most won’t when it all pops). Would we criticise other industries for using resources? No, just build the capacity to have industries. Would Germany’s electricity be cheaper if they stopped all car production….?

Thats nothing compared to Ireland. We are just one big data centre at this point

The data is not detailed. There is no explanation of the increase. It can be multiple factors .
It can be also european datacenter that moved from another country to netherland for competitive advantage.
It can be also companies that had local server infrastructure that moved to the cloud.
It’s not necessarily a net large increase.

It’s not the data centers… it’s your posts on reddit, twitter, whatsapp, and whatnot XD
You all want to be online and have your photos synchronize with your laptop but you’re horrified by how much power it uses. Ironic.

Those are rookie numbers Netherlands!
Your population is 18m, Ireland’s in 5m and data centers here also use as much power as 2 million homes!
Get back to us when you reach Irish levels of absolute lack of infrastructure planning!

I think the article confused decimal and thousands separators. In NL the decimal separator is “,” but in the article it is used as thousand separator. Very confusing mix-up between metric and imperial units. Credibility failure.

The alternative is the office with a server room, which is less efficient than a DC.
