About 137,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory remain potentially mined due to the ongoing war. In 2025, nearly 10,000 hectares of agricultural land have already been cleared and returned to use under the state compensation program. For comparison, the corn harvest from the same area could have brought in about $15.4 million USD

The number of demining operators in Ukraine has risen to 130 in 2025, and the total number of demining machines has exceeded 280 units, which is the highest figure in the world – says Volodymyr Baida, Director of the Humanitarian Demining Center.

According to the Center, the average cost of clearing one hectare of agricultural land has dropped from $30,000 to about $1,400 thanks to the opening of the market and competition among operators.

At the same time, the danger to sappers is increasing due to Russian drones. Therefore, Ukraine is considering expanding the safe zone for humanitarian demining from 20 to 50 km from the frontline.
